With Gratitude, to Father Michael Roach
Chief Historian for Mount St. Mary's Seminary and Archdiocese of Baltimore
As Tides of Fury sets sail on its serialized journey, I want to take a moment to express my deepest thanks to Father Michael Roach, whose guidance and insight into Maryland’s early Catholic history has been invaluable to my research.
Father Michael’s encyclopedic knowledge of figures like Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Archbishop John Carroll, and his generous sharing of historical documents and personal commentary, brought clarity and texture to scenes that might otherwise have run aground. His encouragement helped steer this story through moments of doubt, and I am especially honored that he took the time to have the first chapter read aloud to him—and responded with a single word that meant the world: “Lovely.”
Thank you, Father Michael, for helping history come alive with such grace and good humor. This story is richer because of you.
